Phototherapy
Also vastly known as laser therapy. It’s an anti-inflammatory technology that relives arthritic pain, muscle soreness, spinal or nerve pain. It is used to hasten healing of wounds and to kill bacteria.
It can be used in a wide variety of pain and inflammatory issues with different settings.
At Kenwick Wellness Centre, we provide tailored made programs to target your pet’s specific needs.
Water treadmill
Water treadmill allows your pet to exercise without having to carry their weight due to the buoyancy of water. This is particularly important if they are too weak to stand.
The speed, water depth and temperature are controlled to provide a tailored made program.
- Improve range of motion
- Regain muscle strength
- Reduce stiffness
- Minimize oedema or swelling
- Increase proprioception
- Pain relief
- Safer exercise
- Regain confidence
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Therapeutic ultrasound is used to exert thermal, mechanical and chemical effects on the tissue to enhance healing. It can also be used to increase the stretch in tissues in order to increase range of motion around a joint. Through deep healing, therapeutic ultrasound can stimulate blood flow to the area to reduce inflammation and swelling.
Electrical stimulation
Electrical stimulation is the application of electrical impulses to a muscle or muscle group to stimulate contraction. Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) can prevent atrophy of muscles while Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is used for pain management.
NMES is most commonly used in orthopaedic and neurological injuries and diseases. This therapy will help your pet maintain their muscle mass, especially after an orthopaedic surgery.
Shockwave Therapy
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a method of using sound energy waves in strong pulses transferred to body tissues. It was originally developed to break up large kidney stones in humans and it has become a fantastic tool in treating other problems in animals.
It is used mainly to stimulate the healing process, reduce pain and restore mobility.
The depth, strength and frequency of the sound waves can be controlled to treat individual condition.
Some common conditions that can be treated are:
- Tendon injuries
- Ligament injuries
- Osteoarthritis
- Deep muscle pain
- Back pain
