Brachycephalic Breeds
Brachycephalic Breeds
Dog breeds like French and English bulldogs, Boston terriers, Pugs and Pekinese have a shorter head and the structure of their throat and muzzle can cause breathing obstructions. These dog breeds are collectively known as the ‘brachycephalic’ breed.
Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome refers to a group of abnormalities that result in upper airway obstruction. Addressing these abnormalities at an early age can help avoid progression.
At Kenwick Vet, we provide corrective surgeries for our brachycephalic breeds. These include the correction of stenotic nares, elongated soft palate and everted laryngeal saccules.
Want to know if your short-snouted fur baby needs corrective surgeries? Please contact us at (08) 9459 7999 today to make an appointment.
Clinical Pathology
Clinical Pathology
Signs of diseases are often subtle. This is particularly true in pets when they cannot speak to us. Clinical pathology allows us to diagnose diseases and monitor health conditions.
At Kenwick Vet, we offer a wide range of in-house diagnostics that are essential to diagnose and treat your pets. Most of our blood test results are available within the same day or even a few hours. This way we can start treating your pets quicker in order to make them feel better sooner.

Radiography
Radiography
Radiography or X-ray is a non-invasive approach to examine tissues, bones and organs. It is particularly useful to quickly diagnose injuries in an emergency situation. At Kenwick Vet, we use digital radiography to avoid processing delays.
To avoid unnecessary repeated exposure, patients need to stay still while having a radiograph taken. That is why most patients have their X-ray taken while under sedation or general anaesthetic.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound
Ultrasonography is a painless procedure that is becoming more readily available within vet practices. Many of the internal organs can be scanned non-invasively to aid in the diagnose of disease. This includes heart, liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, gastrointestinal tracts, pancreas, and reproductive organs.
Areas of hair may be clipped for the procedure. Sedation or general anaesthesia may be required in some cases to keep our patients still for a thorough examination.
In addition to our in-house ultrasonography, we also have mobile specialist ultrasonographers who come to our hospital to assess our more complicated cases.
